Message In drag racing, you have to have a good reaction from a stop and try to get your car to hook up and not bog. None of those 'skills' are needed in road racing. Thats not to say one is harder than the other, it's just to say that there are different skills needed.

In drag racing, shifting super quick and flawlessly is essential to a good time. During road racing, shifting quickly is important, but not as important, especially since heel/toe downshifting will take slightly more time than upshifting. Missing a shift drag racing = race over. Missing a shift road racing = gain it back next lap.

The 'skills' required are differnt in a lot of respects. I would say that being a good road course driver does not require being a good drag racer. And vice versa.

And the main issue with Mike's car is the clutch. It is a true on/off twin disc clutch. This type of clutch is perfect for road racing, but terrible for drag racing (I like nixit's term 'fag racing'). His 60' time is obviously bad and that is a result of not being able to slip the clutch like he would want to in a fag race. But, since his car is set up to road race, I'm sure he could care less about his 1/4 times.

"A lot of these guys try to cover up their inadequate driving skills by saying they don't like drag racing."

IMO, that's horse poo.
